For you to consider are a matched antique pair of Egyptian Revival cast iron bookends by Bradley & Hubbard. Dating to the mid-1920s, the bookends depict in raised relief the Great Sphinx of Giza in profile flanked by fluted columns and standing lotus blossoms, and is topped with a winged sun symbolizing divine protection, power, and royalty. Created soon after the discovery of the tomb of King Tutankhamun in 1922 at which time Egyptian Revival and Art Deco design influences became all the rage. Beautifully cast and in excellent condition, each bookend stands approximately 3.75" in height, measures 4.25" in length, 1.75" in width, and weighs just under 1.5 pounds. Expected light shelf wear is present on the bottoms along with minor surface wear to the interior sides, otherwise there are no damages or compromising imperfections found. A very well cared for pair across the past century with wear commensurate to age and history of use, so please regard the photos as they form a descriptive part of the listing.
