Heavy Antique Black Cast Iron The Boss Nut Cracker Mastiff St Bernard Dog Jaws Lever Eschmeyer 1800sMaterials: Metal, Cast IronMade of heavy cast iron, the brawny Mastiff or Saint Bernard was the perfect breed of dog to style this mechanical piece after. Sitting on a somewhat decorative rectangular base, the dog is secured by a screw under each paw. Besides being 7.5\" from nose to butt, the trail of the dog extends another 6\"+. When the tail is brought upward, the dog\'s great jaws open revealing a set of plyer type grippers. I can\'t imagine there to be a nut that cannot be cracked in those jaws; not even the Brazilian nut would stand a chance (the one we most toiled with!!). Obviously, even if one would never used this as a nut cracker, what a wonderful piece for display! On the top of the base, and just under the dog are embossed the words, \"The Boss Nut Cracker\". MADE IN THE 1800s.
Body Condition: Wonderful vintage condition. Very light surface rust, Black painted dog. Tail moves up and down with ease.
