Up for sale pair of Austrian Art Nouveau porcelain figures of peasants by Ernst Wahliss for Royal Vienna with beautiful hand-painted features and lovely pastel colors with gilded highlights. I found embossed and ink stamps and inscriptions on the bottom of the base, as well as a Royal Vienna-Wahliss certificate stamp. In excellent collectible condition, with one very tiny nibble onthe brim of the man\'s hat. There is a thin crack on the base of the woman, which I think was caused during the production, as there is no sign of external impact. See the dimensions and condition from the photos, they are an integral part of the description. You get what you see in the pictures. But as with all my items - Please see the photos closely as this is not an item in new condition.Ernst Wahliss was an Austrian ceramicist who created ornate porcelain and earthenware vessels for European elites. Also known for his small-scale sculptures, the artist often depicted Baroque-era women dressed in opulent clothing. Born on March 1, 1837, in Oschatz in the Kingdom of Saxony, Wahliss began his pottery career as a traveling salesman for a porcelain factory at age 30. He later left to found his own ceramics company, and soon began exporting porcelain goods across Europe. To meet the high demand for his pottery and sculptures, the artist opened his department store, Wahliss, in Vienna’s city center. Wahliss died on July 18, 1900, in Vienna, Austria. His works can be found in the collections of the Museum of Applied Arts and Sciences in Sydney, the Carnegie Museum of Art in Pittsburgh, and the Museum of New Zealand in Wellington.I do my best to describe items as accurately as I can.
