Antique 19th c Mixed Wood Box Lid Breadboard Ends Till Personal Letter Writing.
Description: This simple & lovely 19th c. mixed / laminated wood box is made with care and detail. The mixed woods, which appear to include cherry, maple, walnut, pine and oak, produced a subtle striping effect. The hinged lid, which appears to be maple, has notched breadboard which provide a finished look. There is a small fixed till inside the box, perhaps to hold a pen or sewing tools. The box has an intact lock, but no key. It's an elegant little eye-catcher, and a catchall for your keys, pens, small note cards, or sewing notions.Condition: Very good antique condition overall. The bottom has some early discoloration, which is blueish and might be ink. It's visible on the bottom and slightly visible on the bottom of the back, and very bottom edge of the sides, where it's only noticeable if you're looking for it. The discoloration doesn't appear inside or on the front. There's also a very slight warp to the front right of the lid, which I only noticed when taking a photo at eye level to the box. Finally, there are a few small dark spots on the lid that have been there a very long time. All mentioned for accuracy; otherwise it's a lovely little box (See photos.)
