This beautiful inkstand is an excellent example of the works of The Barbedienne Foundry of Paris, founded by Ferdinand Barbedienne (1810-1892). The inkwell is currently a stunning rose gold shade of bronze with faint gold gilt outlines, though it would likely polish up to a rich gold. The inkwell features ornate raised designs and figural handles and lids. The inkwell measures 19.75" wide x 6" deep x 6" to the top of the middle inkwell. The two side inkwells measure 1.75" x 2.5", and have hinged lids and cobalt blue glass inserts. The center inkwell measures 4.5" tall x 2.25" wide and has a removable lid and no insert. The inkwell is signed "F. Barbedienne" on the back. The inkwell does show some wear and patina commensurate with its age. It has been gently cleaned to preserve the patina.
