I was given this fraternal sword when I was just a kid, in the early 1970\'s. For the longest time I had no idea what this was. I knew it was some kind of fraternal ceremonial sword, but could not figure out what organization it was from. It does not say \"Freemason\'s\" or \"Knights Templar\" any where on it. As you can see though, from the symbology, there is no doubt of it\'s origin. This sword seems to be originally owned by a \"C. J. Fuchs\", and has his name on the blade. It is also scrimshawed with a monogram \"CF\" on the handle. The manufacturer\'s label is on the blade, it says \"The MC Lilly & Co. Columbus Ohio\". This manufacturer mark identifies that this sword was made between 1923 - 1925. On the other side it says \"Memento Mori\", which means \"Remember you must die\". There is a serial number of 86 on the scabbard. There is a red cloisonne cross within a crown on the scabbard, and another cross in crown on the blade, which is an \"Order of the Temple - Knights Templar\" symbol.There is some condition issues, the scabbard plating has some surface rust and flaking in spots. The blade has some light surface rust staining. The grip has some chips on the bottom of the monogram side. There is some hairline fissures in the ivory. The cloth wrap has been restitched. The leather carrying case tip has come unstitched, the handle is bent, and it has some overall scuffing. The grip is solid and strong. The leather pad on the sword is in great shape.
