This is a very old original antique oak staved flat bottom (egg-shaped) canteen that resembles the ones used during the Revolutionary War period, but the history and age are unknown. Condition is good considering age; all staves are intact and secure, and the lead spout is still intact. The plug and handle are missing, and one of the handle hangers was replaced with an eye hook. The wood is in good condition but there are some tiny worm holes tight cracks, and typical wear from age and use. One end of the barrel has a little hole near the bottom corner. The steel bands are tight but can be easily removed (they are not secured in place). The barrel measures 10 1/2" L x 7 1/4" W x 8 1/2" H and will be packed securely and insured during shipping.
