I've had this beautiful old piece since 2020. It's not perfect, but it's flaws do not detract from its display value. If you appreciate historic pieces, I think you'll be forgiving.

I'm going to borrow from the original seller's description, which I'll send to the winner:

It's a cube shape with canted corners, covered in a Satinwood veneer. Inlaid with neoclassical paterae in Harewood and shaded boxwood. Strung with boxwood and ebony, cross- banded with tulipwood.

Original elliptical boxwood keyhole escutcheon. Thick, hand-cut veneers throughout. Original lock, but no key. Original hinges. The hinges are sound - there is no damage to the wood in the region of hinges. Single compartment with original mahogany lid and brass knob. The caddy is lined with early "sugar paper".

Now, here is MY description. The veneer on the right and left sides look bowed. In places the veneer is lifted or split. There were pieces missing that I repaired with some old veneer I had. The hinges ARE sound, but they are not evenly positioned. The right one looks like it's at an angle because I can see a split in the wood underneath so at some point someone fixed it. The sugar paper has a tear in two corners. The inside lid has a scratch on it. The outer lid doesn't push securely shut. I've lovingly kept this box away from direct sunlight behind glass in my smoke-free home.

I paid $550 for this little gem. In perfect condition you're looking at much more money. Don't forget to expand the pictures for close examination. Thanks for looking!
