For sale isa rare and superb cup and saucer made in Strasbourg or early Frankenthal in the 1750\'s. The Strassburg factory was founded by Karl Franz Hannong as an earthenware maker around 1721 but soon after his son Paul Anton took over the factory around 1732. After he went into partnership with Ringler he began the production of porcelain. The competition with Vincennes forced him to close the factory and move it to Frankenthal which also used this mark in their early years of production but usually in different shapes. The set is hand painted with a superb animal scene in the center - the saucer has a cow resting on the ground surrounded by some nice greenery and a piece of fence and the cup has a sheep with a column behind it in a landscape surrounding. Both have a couple of flowers to the rest of the piece and the saucer has two tiny leaves to hide flaws from the making. Gold trim to the edges and handle. An extremely rare set to find from a rare maker. Both are marked with the under glaze blue H with a dot above it as well as some letters and numbers as shown. The saucer has some hard to see incised numbers / letters as shown. The saucer is in perfect condition with some manufacturing flaws and impurities normal on these early wares and the cup has a crack across the bottom terminal of the handle that affects the cup body in that spot a bit as well (just the outside!) and a knocked area to the foot ring that never came off.
