Antique 122 year old bas-relief 3/4 paper portrait of President William McKinley -

Dimensions are ; 13 7/8" high , 12 7/16" wide , 1/2" thick . Materials are ; paper , mat board , wood frame . President William McKinley , the 25th POTUS , was born January 29 , 1843 in Niles Ohio , he was elected as a Republican and served as President from March 4 , 1897 to September 14 , 1901 when he became the third U.S. President to be assassinated . He was shot by Leon F Czolgosz , an anarchist who concealed the weapon in a bandage wrapped around his hand , in the 'Temple of Music' at the Pan American Exposition in Buffalo New York on September 14 , 1901 . He fell backward into the arms of his Secret Service agents. McKinley succeeded Grover Cleveland ( the only man to be elected to the Presidency twice but non consecutively ) defeating William Jennings Bryant the Democratic nominee who had defeated Cleveland for the Democratic nomination. McKinley was succeeded immediately by his Vice President , Theodore Roosevelt , who at 42 is the youngest man ever to take the office. This paper bas-relief was issued in 1902 as a Memorial Day souvenir by the Woodward and Tiernan Printing Co of St. Louis Missouri . The cream colored image of McKinley is against a black background and bevel-mounted in a cream/off white colored mat board . The bas relief and matting are in pristine condition , however the black wooden frame , which is original has a few nicks. An interesting footnote : McKinleys assassin was tried , convicted and executed in the electric chair on October 29 , 1901 - less than 2 months after the assassination . A great piece of Presidential memorabilia.
