Ancient Seal with Two-Horned Bull and Inscription / Indus Valley C. 2000 BC Very Rare Indusvalley steatite seal circa 2000 BC Item: Stamp-seal with glyphs Content: It consisted of the motif of a majestic zebu bullwhich had wide curving horns. Possibly, the zebu bull symbolized the leader ofthe herd who protects them or it stands for a sacrificial animal Provenance: Private collection Dimensions: 31 x 35mm Date: circa 2000 BC Period/culture: Indus Civilization Origin: Mehrgarh,Balochistan,Pakistan Script: Harappa Script, thescript has not yet been deciphered Material: Steatite Technique: carved Condition: authentic no restoration. Nice patina of old age. Design: Handmade. The seals wouldhave been made on a clay tag or pottery and used by merchants to authenticate,or identify, a package. On the back is a projection, probably to hold whilepressing the seal into other materials such as clay. The projections also havea hole for thread, presumably so the seal can be worn or carried as a necklace.
