This "Ambassador Magma" マグマ大使 (Magma Taishi) original hand-painted production cel is matched to its original hand-painted production background (the original matching background and not a laser print or giclee). This lot also includes the hand-drawn matching production guide for cel. (Note: our overprints, "Scan Copyright abctoo", are not on the original pictures and were only added here to protect the originals from misappropriation). Reasonable offers will be considered.

"Ambassador Magma" started as a Japanese manga and tokusatsu (live action) TV series created by Osamu Tezuka. The TV series, produced by P Productions, first aired on Fuji TV from July 4, 1966 to September 25, 1967, with a total of 52 episodes. "Ambassador Magma" was the first color tokusatsu TV series in Japan, beating Ultraman to the airwaves by 6 days. The show, dubbed in English, briefly aired in the U.S. in 1970, and by 1978-79 became a staple of then fledgling Superstation TBS's afternoon programming as "The Space Giants." The 1993 Original Video Animation (OVA) 13 episode anime remake served as a retelling of the original series. The OVA was produced by Bandai Visual, Tezuka Productions and PLEX, and was directed by Hidehito Ueda.

The subject of this "Ambassador Magma" production art is the primary character, the Evil Alien Goa, known in the English version as Rodak. The main conflict of the story involves Goa (Rodak) repeatedly seeking to conquer Earth by sending new dinosaur-like monsters from deep space to attack.

This original animation production art is full size. Its matching hand-painted production background shows the destruction the Evil Alien Goa has created. This is the original hand-painted production background used in the video and not merely a photo-copy or giclee of it.The hand-painted cel is 26.5 x 33.5 cm (10½ x 13 inches). The matching hand-painted production background is 28x36 cm (11 x 14 inches). The hand-drawn pencil sketch cel color guide is 24x26.5 cm (about 9½ x 10½ inches). All three of these production artwork pieces are included in this lot.

We obtained this key cel with its original matching background and matching pencil sketch over 15 years ago. The last scan is a close-up of the upper right corner of this cel on its background. The very right top of this scan shows background number C334 followed by 22. The left top of this close-up shows "C-22" in black on the cel. "22" is for the main cel. The numbering is indicative that the cel and background were matched together for the original production filming.
