Beautiful collection of 4 old & rare Missals , in fine Bindings , folio, illustrated, printed at 'Plantijn' , Antwerp and Mechelen - A very rare and valuable set, 18th century1) Old & rare, large Missal , richly illustrated with amazing engravings by Cornelis GALLE , and countless of fine initials and vignets , in beautiful gilt red morocco binding in late baroque style with silver floral ornaments.
Printed in the famous Antwerp prining house 'Plantijn' in 1737MISSALE ROMANUM EX DECRETO SACROSANCTI CONCILII TRIDENTINI RESTITUTUM [...] - Antwerp, ex Architypographia Plantiniana, 1737 - Folio, 42 x 30 cm - 628, cxxviij pages, gold on cut - with countless beautiful detailed initials, the well known vignettes and impressive full page engravings as well as part-titles with fine engraved borders by Cornelis Galle ( signed ) - in contemporary red morocco binding with cut and chisseled silver floral ornaments and corner pieces ( clasp straps missing, some scratches on covers ) illustrated with 9 full page engravings + 9 part title pages with fine engraved borders - entirely printed in red and black - with numerous woodcut ornamental initials - marbled endpapers - very fine and scarce - (elsewhere offered for 4000 usd) -In good condition. Complete, solid, compact. Interior good, a few pages a bit spotty.
2)Rare and large Missale romanum ex decreto sacrosancti Concilii Tridentini restitutum, S. Pii V. jussu editum, Clementis VIII. et Urbani papae octavi [...]. Antwerp., Plantin Press, 1761 - In modern brown morocco, blind-stamped and gilt boards with central gilt cross, gilt . spine with raised bands - with cloth tabs, wooden "pipa" and bookmarks (some repairs to lower spine, rubbed) With modern slipcase. Richly illustrated with 10 full-page copper engravings, each very fine and powerful and a title-vign. With some 19th-c. additions in the end - 36 x 25 cm -In excellent condition. Complete, compact , solid, clean.
3)Ex Architypographia Plantiniana - Missale romanum ex decreto sacro-sancti Concilii Tridentini restitutum, S. Pii V. Pont. Max. jussu editum, et Clementis VIII. primùm, nunc denuò Urbani papae VIII. auctoritate recognitum - Antwerp,Ex Architypographia Plantiniana,1762 - 8vo. Contemporary leather binding with gilt spine, cloth tabs, fabric "pipa". In modern slipcase. Illustrated with 10 beautiful full-page engravings , many initials, vignets and a title-vignet - 772, clviii, 12 pages - a few pages with old manuscript
In excellent condition. Complete, solid. Some pages a bit darker. Medium size.
4)Large Missale romanum - ex decreto sacrosanti Concilii Tridentini restitutum, S. Pii V. pontificis maximi jussu editum, aliorum pontificum cura recognitum, a Pio X. reformatum, et Benedicti XV. auctoritate vulgatum. Editio juxta typicam Vaticanam - Mechelen, Dessain, 1949- Red shagreen, large central gilt cross on boards gilt-ruled, gilt-ruled flat spine, a.e.g., leather tabs, silver metal corner pieces, brass and clasps. Illustrated with a frontispiece, in-text and full-page illustrations in colours. With additions at end.
In excellent condition. Large size : 33 x 25 cm - Complete, solid, compact. Binding good.
