Title: No. 461. Statue de Memphis a Sahhura (Sakkara)

Date:1880s

Medium: Albumen print on plain mount

Size of Image: 8 7/8 x 11 1/8 inches

Size of Mount: 13 5/8 x 18 1/4 inches

Condition: Medium tonal image, sharp and clean, mount shows some aging/spotting with chipping to edges/corners.

Other: Wonderful Zangaki view of the colossal Ramses II statue at Memphis, Egypt.

George & Constantine Zangaki of Greek origin were active in the Middle East from the 1860s through the 1880s (some sources set the dates at 1870s through 1890s). Early on they were associated with French photographer Hyppolyte Arnoux and are primarily linked to a studio in Cairo with one source listing them in Port Said.

Often misidentified as Langaki due to the confusion of the script used in their image titles.
