Afghan Medal for Service in the Armed Forces, 2nd class (for 15 Years ofService), 1987-1992 issue. This is a GUARANTEED 100% ORIGINAL Medal issued by theCommunist Government of Afghanistan during the period of Soviet occupation andbefore the fall of the Soviet-backed Najibullah’s regime – NOT a reproductionor recent “reissue”! This medal was struck at the Soviet Mint and showshigh quality typical of the Soviet manufacture. The medallion is made in brass and enamel, measures 32.0mm wide; weighs 16.8 g not including the suspension and connecting link. Theobverse shows red star and military emblem of Afghanistan from the Soviet era.The reverse is inscribed in Dari \"Medal of Service in the Armed Forces, After15 Years\". The medal is in GREAT condition. It shows no wear to theraised details, no dings visible to the naked eye, and no edge knocks. The giltfinish is extremely well preserved and bright showing only light patina on theobverse and practically pristine on the reverse. The blue enamel is almostperfect having only a few tiny scuffs that are barely noticeable. The medalcomes on original suspension with correct old red-black-and-green ribbon. Theribbon is used but in excellent condition. For unknown reasons, this and the 3rd classmedal (for 10 Years) are the hardest for find among the Afghan Army longservice series. This was a relatively scarce award even 30 years ago, and ofcourse few of them have survived to our days after the years of civil war andTaliban rule! Great historic medal with a lot of character.
