Antique 1902 Owens China Co. Gold Medal St. Louis Minerva Decorative Cabinet Wall Plate,10.75\" in diameter
Featuring:
▪ Earliest hallmark, 1902 - see below▪ highly detailed, striking hand painted large 5.5\" wide bull elk/stag & female doe, vibrantly colored;▪ both standing amongst soft, pastel colors, soft blue sky, and▪ foreground of various soft sage colored grasses, trees amongst mountainous backround scene▪ large 10.75\" diameter plate decorated in gold gilt showing age appropriate wear. NO loss to semi-porcelain china plate edges; no nicks, hairlines, cracks, nor loss to any edges, exterior or underside. No crazing to plate\'s front display nor back. There is one highly superficial, miniscule size flake within lrg elk only visible if hunted for. Only upon photographing plate did we first discover the finest superficial utensil scrape marks seen only in images where a camera flash magnified. Mentioned for complete disclosure, otherwise do not detract from this stunning nature scene. We\'ve proudly displayed & admired it for decades. Truly a delightful eye catching beauty for your cabinet or wall display.
Note the earliest hallmark of The Owen China Co., located in Minerva, Ohio, that opened in 1902 & closed in 1932. It won a medal at the 1904 St. Louis World Fair for best domestic semi-porcelain.
Based on the rare, early, faded green stamp, likely this plate dates dates to 1902. Hallmark reads:
GOLD MEDALST. LOUISO.C. Co.MINERVA.O.
