ANTIQUE LATIN AMERICAN WOODEN SCULPTURE HANDCRAFTED CARVED and PAINTED SOLDIERBeautiful and unique handcrafted wooden sculpture delicately painted with exquisite details on the front.The back is completely smooth and unpainted, revealing the wood as the material.It represents a Latin American soldier in a childlike style, almost resembling a toy.Beautiful piece of decoration. Measures: Height: 13 in (33cm) Lenght: 4.72 in (12cm) Width: 2.36 in (6cm) Weight 566 gmsMADE IN: On the verysmall base it has a stamp that says \"MADE IN BOLIVIA\" ANTIQUE: We have carriedout a study and a search to find out what type of soldier the sculpture refersto, as well as to have an approximate idea of the age of the carving. And we discovered that thefigure refers to the Bolivian CUIRACEROS of 1879 ITS AGE: We donot know the EXACT date of manufacture, but consulting with antique dealers andpeople who know about wood, they have told us that a rough estimate is that itwas carved and painted between the years 1970 and 1980. HISTORY The BolivianArmy during the Pacific War (1879-1883) was the land armed force of the statethat carried out the military policy of the Government of Bolivia during thewar, in order to achieve its political and economic objectives: “Escolta” Squadron1 from Coraceros, Bolivia. c.1879. Note from the National Historical Museum.The “Escort” Squadron 1 of Cuirassiers, was the personal escort of HilariónDaza during the Pacific War, they wore helmets and breastplates made of theImperial Guard of Napoleon III, with a Bolivian shield on the chest and anotheron the helmet. They formed part of the line unit of the Bolivian cavalry at thebeginning of the Pacific War, part of the 3rd Villamil Division. They used theFrench model cavalry saber and the Remington carbine, the uniform was completedby a spear with the Bolivian pennant.
