ANTIQUE ROUND MILK GLASS SALT BOX WITH WOODEN LID
Here is a round milk glass antique salt box with a hinged, attached wooden lid. Salt boxes were first popular in Europe and became widely used in the US during the 1920’s and 1930’s. The salt box is 4-5/8” tall to the lid. The box rises in the back to form a glass tab with a hole for hanging. The total height is 5-7/8” with this tab. The box is 6” in diameter. The wooden lid is hinged for easy access. It’s attached to the salt box with wooden pegs that fit into holes in the glass.
The front says “SALT” in raised milk glass letters. Overall it’s in very good condition. There are some “flea bites” (tiny rough spots or nicks) on the front edge and near the hanger hole edge. I’ve included pictures of these. Of course, there’s some wear appropriate to the age.
