Antique Gorham oversized sterling silver ice serving tongs in the 1864 Medallion pattern. The top of the handle is hollow and shows different medallions on each side. One man and one woman. The tips are finely detailed claws. The tongs are 9 3/4" long and weigh 128 grams. Very nice condition. The top of the handle shows engraved monograms on both sides and the dates 1891-1916. I guess to mark a 25th anniversary. The tongs are stamped sterling along with a Gorham maker's mark and also Lowell & Senter for the original retailer(1830-1870,Portland,ME.). Nice item.
