ANTIQUE FRENCH PARADE SHIELD JOUSTING SHIELD LARGE ARMOR WALL SHIELD circa 1770:

This shield was found in France and dates to the late 18TH Century It is based on the original King Henri II parade shield which resides in the Metropolitan Museum of Art, circa 1555. It\'scalled \'\'parade armor\'\' because it was never actually intended for war.
It was elaborately embossed , designed to be part of a collection for ceremonies. The original armor, helmet and shield designed by Etienne Delaune took 10 years to make. The workshop in which it was fabricated was most likely the French Royal Armory. The design on the shield is thought to represent the victory of Hannibal and the Carthaginians over the Romans in 216 B.C. Unlike the priceless original in the museum, the model I have, is one of several produced in the 18 th C. This one is extremely detailed throughout and is very unique in that it\'sadorned with finely decorated swords and axes.This magnificent will be a focal point to any area it is placed in. Heavy weighs approximately 27 lbs.

I\'m not an expert on parade shields or anything similar. What I did was research and mostly copy and pasted when I found this piece that was sold. I found only one in my research that is identical to THIS ONE.

There is very little information on this shield on the internet but I did find 1 that was described and sold at sale as mentioned above
