A little history lesson first...
Started in 1890 by the Sebring brothers, the East Palestine Pottery Company (E.P.P. Co.) was located in East Palestine, Ohio where it operated independently for over a decade before it was purchased by fellow area potter William Shaw George in 1904, renaming the company The W. S. George Pottery Company. In 1910 the company opened a manufacturing facility in Canonsburg, PennsylvaniaThis listing is for a beautiful antique cabinet portrait plate manufactured by E.P.P. Co. It\'s a little mysterious. My research indicates that once the company was renamed W.S. George Pottery Co., all pieces were marked with the George backstamp. This plate does NOT have the W.S. George backstamp, only E.P.P. Co. However, it also states that it was manufactured in Canonsburg, Pennsylvania, and my research indicates that plant was not opened until 1910 - years after W.S. George purchased E.P.P. Co. If you can shed any light on this puzzle, I\'d love to hear from you!
Measures a whopping 11 3/4\" in diameter.Excellent antique condition with no chips, cracks, or evidence of unusual wear. Some crazing, but that\'s mostly only visible on the back. There\'s a little disruption in a couple spots in the wide gold band around the rim, which looks like a manufacturing flaw where something came into contact with the gold paint before it was fully cured.
