HERE IS SOMETHING FOR THE LOVERS OF ITEMS REPRESENTING HISTORICAL SIGNIFICANCE. OFFERED IS A SINGLE CAST IRON BOOKEND THAT WAS LIKELY MADE IN THE 1920s. THIS REPRESENTS THE LION OF LUCERNE. THIS WAS SCULPTED FROM THE LIVING ROCK OF THE CLIFF AND COMMEMORATES THE SWISS GUARDSMEN WHO DIED IN 1792 DURING THE FRENCH REVOLUTION. IT HAS BEEN CALLED THE MOST MOURNFUL AND MOVING PIECE OF STONE IN THE WORLD. AS YOU CAN SEE, THE METAL IS EXTREMELY OXIDIZED. SADLY, THE FIRST OWNER OF THIS BOOKEND DID NOT TAKE GOOD RESPECTFUL CARE OF IT. LUCKILY I CAN STILL READ THE LATIN LETTERING FOR YOU. THE MEASUREMENTS:

Measured at the base: approximately 7 1/4\" long x 1” 3/4\" deep and 3 7/8\" high. The actual carved area is 6 1/2\" long and 3 3/8\" high. The weight is just about 2 pounds 1.3 oz. The completed box will ship USPS insured at the 3 pound rate Priority or Ground Advantage depending on the destination. If your location is not very far from NY, Priority will be the correct service.
