This sterling silver cigarette case was made in England in1911 and bears the passant lion sterling mark as well as the letter M date markduring the period of British Control over India, and was custom made to orderin India and embellished with an Erotic Kama Sutra position done by anaccomplished Indian Artist in a bright colorful hand painted porcelain panelthat remains in minty condition. This piece was undoubtedly commissioned by awealthy and rakish British Gentleman patron, who are known to relish postVictorian period Erotic Art and was called a “naughty”. The cigarette casewould be removed from a jacket pocket while offering a cigarette to gentleman friendor business acquaintance with great Victorian flourish, to be admired andcommented on. 3.2 ounces or 92 grams. 3 1/2” x 2 1/2” x 1/2”. Both the frontand back have multiple line engraved patterns with the initials A.H in thefront round escutcheon. The original elastic band is intact.
