These really old Victorian valentines are becoming scarce. Ones like this one, from the early days of the last century, are really gorgeous, but getting hard to find. This one is nice - stands 7 inches tall, and is 4 inches wide. It has age related flaws, as is to be expected. It opens nicely, and stands, although it needs a bit of encouragement. It really wants to close!
It features a little dog cart with two children, and lots and lots of flowers. The piece is made from highly embossed card stock. The interior pieces are Victorian \"scrap\" which is the name for the little die cuts that Victorians pasted into scrap books. There are creases, and chips to the embossed edge, but no missing pieces (that I could find).
It isn\'t marked as to country, but is attributed to USA. The little 4 honeycomb tissue flowers are all great - nice and bright, and all there, working.
There is some darkening to the piece overall, especially to the edges.
Buyer, beware! Hallmark in the 1990s made a \"reissue\" of the Victorian style cards, with lots of gilt, embossing, and more. They are marked Hallmark on the back, and they are also usually nice and bright and white on the back. These are NOT old, but I see them advertised as antique, all the time.
