THE BOTTOM OF THIS PIECE IS EARLIER THAN THE TOP. THE TOP PIECE DEFINTELY DATES TO THE 18TH CENTURY AND IS BACKED IN WOOL WITH LINEN BINDING THE EDGE WITH A PRINT LINEN AFFIXED TO THE CENTER WITH REMNANTS OF METALLIC FOIL AROUND.
THE BOTTOM PIECE IS EARLIER AND IS SILK ON THE GROUND WITH GILT GOLD EMBROIDERY AND SPANGLES AROUND A PRINTED LINEN CENTER WITH THE BACKING IN SILK AND HAND STITCHED ALL ALONG THE EDGES. A HAT PIN HAS ATTACHED THE TWO PIECES TOGETHER.
RED LINEN TAPES ARE ATTACHED AT THE TOP WITH A STRIPED WOOL THAT ALMOST MATCHES THE WOOL BACKING OF THE TOP PIECE AND IS TRIMMED IN THE MATCHING LINEN.
CONDITION: HEAVY TARNISH IS SEEN TO THE GOLD WORK WITH SMALL BREAKS TO THE SILK GROUND, NOTE THE IMAGES. SMALL WEAR TO THE BROWN PAPER GROUND THAT SURROUNDS THE TOP PIECE AND AGE COLOR IS SEEN TO THE LINEN TAPES.
