These are devotional medals from Conventswe work with as well as donor collector estates that have gifted their medalsto us to help the convents we work with. This medal is 1.25 inches long and weighs 8 grams ofbronze. It was minted in 1631 to celebrate the first 100-year anniversary ofthe apparition of Our Lady of Guadalupe in 1531 according to my mother'sinventory notes. It is dated 1531 on the Marian side of the medal, and 1631 onthe St. Michael side of the medal (THE MINT DATE). This lot of medals werediscovered during construction work inside a convent in South America whoselocation she does not mention in her inventory notes. This medals dating can be confirmed on pages 2 & 3 ofthe book AN INTRODUCTION TO RELIGIOUS MEDALS, by Bob Forrest, and published byNumismatics INTERNATIONAL in 2004. In addition, this book has chapters(outlined in the table of contents), describing each of the categories ofmedals, their possible place of pilgrimage (acquisition), and origin of themint where they were made.
