KANG)When it first became relevant to the Marvel Cinematic Universe, back in LOKI\'s first season during the summer of 2021, ANAD Avengers #1 was one of those little Keys that escaped notice. One reason for this, perhaps, is that the issue\'s connection to Loki -- and, specifically, the series\' fifth episode \"Journey Into Mystery\" -- isn\'t exactly overt. In Episode 5, as Loki traverses the TVA\'s \"limbo realm\" known as The Void, we\'re shown what\'s left of Avengers Tower -- the once proud site of the team\'s first major battle, a monument of a buildingformerly owned by Tony Stark and later, apparently, owned by a company or individual called \"QENG.\" While no information is given as to the circumstances that lead to the Tower\'s relocation to The Void by the TVA, two things are clear: (1) something big and bad went down at the Tower at some point and (2) QENG is another way to spell \'KANG\", although at this point we nor Loki has met Kang or his variant He Who Remains yet.
Qeng, of course, is a corporation similar to \'Stark\', founded by a businessman from Earth-616 named MR GRYPHON. The word \'Gryphon\' comes from \"Griffon\", two different spellings that refer to a mythological Middle Eastern beast with the head of an eagle and the body of a lion, something akin to a Sphinx. \"Mr. Gryphon\" is an alias used by a man whose real name is NATHANIEL RICHARDS...whom we all know to be none other than our favorite Conqueror.
In the MCU, these reveals have yet to be exposed, and this quiet little Key that offers the FIRST APPEARANCE OF MR GRYPHON, the founder of QENG, remains relatively quiet still. But listen to The \'Squatch here: it will NOT always be so. MR. GRYPHON\'s very brief MCU First Appearance in Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumaniawill lead to the character becoming the MAIN THREAT the Avengers will face when Avengers: Kang Dynasty arrives in 2025. The Kang Variant is already in the MCU 616, has already bought Avengers Tower (as alluded to in Hawkeye and Spider-Man: Homecoming) and just as Avengers Compound was the location of the team\'s battle with THANOS, the renamed (and, as will be revealed, super-high-tech and dangerous) Qeng Tower will be the location of the Avengers battle against Kang in their next big film.
Gryphon will be the final and most dangerous Kang Variant of them all, and the comic available right here will be the MCU\'s greatest Kang variant since the character\'s First Appearance in Avengers #8 (Vol 1, 1964).
