LACKAWANNA COUNTY STADIUM

Lackawanna County Stadium, situated in Moosic, Pennsylvania, opened its doors in 1989 and quickly became a central hub for baseball in the region. As the home of the Scranton/Wilkes-Barre Red Barons, the Triple-A affiliate of the Philadelphia Phillies, the stadium could accommodate around 10,500 fans. The venue was designed to mimic the characteristics of major league parks, with a natural grass field and an expansive outfield, creating an authentic baseball experience. During the Red Barons' tenure, the stadium was a bustling center of community activity, offering affordable family entertainment and serving as a stepping stone for numerous players on their way to the major leagues. This era was characterized by strong local support and a vibrant game-day atmosphere, fostering a deep connection between the team and its fans.

In 2007, the stadium and its team underwent significant changes. The facility was renamed PNC Field after a major renovation and rebranding effort. Simultaneously, the Triple-A affiliation shifted from the Philadelphia Phillies to the New York Yankees, and the team became known as the Scranton/Wilkes-Barre Yankees. Later, in 2013, the team rebranded again, becoming the Scranton/Wilkes-Barre RailRiders. PNC Field now boasts modern amenities and an updated design, enhancing the fan experience while maintaining its status as a premier minor league venue. The RailRiders, as the Triple-A affiliate of the Yankees, continue to draw substantial crowds, perpetuating the stadium's legacy as a cherished local landmark and a vital part of the community's sports culture.
