Facts about Chrysocolla and Cuprite: Chrysocolla is made up of 33.86 percent copper, 2.05 percent aluminum, 1.93 percent hydrogen, 17.10 percent silicon, and 45.06 percent oxygen. Cuprite is a mineral composed of copper oxide (Cu2O). Its molecular weight is made up of 88.82 percent copper (Cu) and 11.18 percent oxygen (O)123. An impure sample of cuprite contains 66.6% copper by mass.
Sonora Sunrise (also known as Sonora Sunset) is a rare and beautiful gem material found in Mexico. It is a rock composed of red cuprite (the sky) and green chrysocolla (the landscape).
Chrysocolla is a hydrated copper phyllosilicate mineral. It\'s a greenish-blue mineral consisting of hydrated copper silicate, occurring as opaline crusts and masses.
Cuprite is an oxide mineral composed of copper(I) oxide Cu2O, and is a minor ore of copper. Its dark crystals with red internal reflections are in the isometric system hexoctahedral class, appearing as cubic, octahedral, or dodecahedral forms, or in combinations.
The orange red colors are chalcotrichite. The mineral is 1 step before becoming cuprite on a molecular scale. There are other colors like yellow and purple. They\'re transition colors. Yellow will transition into cuprite and iridescent purple (like seen in bornite) is a step before becoming native copper. Black coloration is iron not chalcocite. This mineral forms at a depth underground.
