Lot of 6 Spiritual and Christian books from the late 1800s through 1955 by Norman Vincent Peale,Robert Louis Stevenson, Charles Sheldon, Kate Douglas Wiggin, and John Ruskin.
Due to limitations by , I cannot include more than these photographs on this single listing. However, I am very happy to provide additional photographs and information about any of these books if you request it before purchasing. Free shipping.1. Unconventional Prayers, by Dr. Allen A. Stockdale (Comet Press Books), hard cover, 1955 (1st ed). Inscribed and autographed by Stockton to \"dear friends,\" this 64 page book includes a separate in memoriam brochure for Stockdale from 1957. The red back cover has a loss of the superficial cover (see photo of the backs of all 6 books) but otherwise this book is in very good condition with clean pages, no markings or folding.
2. Sesame and Lilies[,] Three Lectures, by John Ruskin, (Donohue, Henneberry & Co.), 226 pages, hard cover. 6\" x 4.75\" x 1\". I cannot find the date but believe this was published in the late 1800s. The title page has separated and the binding behind the front cover is a bit worn (see photo) but the rest of the pages are bound in good to fair condition. The title page also has someone\'s name in ink, and on the page behind the image of Ruskin there is a faint pencil inscription to someone from \"Grandma and Aunt Carrie\" in quality penmanship. There is a small, neat hole (approx 1/8\" at widest) that is limited to the outer edge of the book through the margin (approx pages 82 through 169) and does not affect the text. Overall, this book is in fair to acceptable condition.
3. In His Steps, by Charles M. Sheldon (Henry Altemus Company), 301 pages (followed by approx 36 pages of other publications of the Henry Altemus Company), hard cover, 6\" x 4.25\" x 1\". I cannot find the date but the former owner of the book wrote her name on the back of the front cover with \"1900\" next to it. All of the pages are clean and relatively bright with slight tanning from age. The binding is good with a little discoloration and tearing along the seam (see photo).
4. The Birds\' Christmas Carol With Illustrations, by Kate Douglas Wiggin (Houghton Mifflin Company) 70 pages, 5.5\" x 7.75\" x 5\" hard cover. The last copyright references 1916, and there is also a curious reference to \"Six Hundred and Sixth Thousand\" (perhaps the number of copies printed?) This still has a good binding, and the pages are generally clean (very minor dirt or aging spots mostly on pages 26-35) with no writing or folds.
5. My Desire, by Robert Louis Stevenson (Dodge Publishing Company, 40-42 East 19th Street, New York). Undated. 6.5\' x 5\" x 3/8\" (approx), hard cover. This has nine inspirational thoughts by Stevenson, Lydia Maria Child, Edward Howard Griggs, Lowell, HW Dresser, Bronte, Alice Cary, Horace Mann, Carlyle, T Fuller, with each though on one page, and several blank pages (perhaps as an inducement for the owner(s) to describe their thoughts?). The binding is good and the pages are clean.
6. Spirit Lifters, by Norman Vincent Peale, Sermon Publications, 40 pages 4\' x 6\" x 3/8\" (approx), 1954. This booklet is tightly bound with the original two staples and is clean except for the light pencil margin line on page 36, where the former owner marked the text of a meaningful page (quoting John 11:25), and on the title page where \"August-1955\" is written in pencil (and which he or she evidently purchased for \"25 cents\" at that time). The covers are light tan--which may be the original color or perhaps from aging--compared to the brighter pages.
