This listing is for 6 MATCHING folk dancing ladies from the Erzgebirge region of East Germany. The Erzgebirge region, when Germany was divided, was divided as well, with some in the West, and some in the East. Erzgebirge toys, decorations and miniatures have been highly prized for generations. These little figures are sort of marked - there is a very faint GES GETSCH on the bottom of one or two; this means "Made in Germany" which would be East Germany, as figures from West Germany were always marked West, while items from East Germany, not so much. The area is most famous for the hand made candy containers, as well as Christmas Putz figures. Putz is the German word for plaster, and has come to describe the tiny hand made composite figures and village pieces, as a main component in composite is plaster (along with sawdust and glue). Putz villages are the little villages that people display each year under their trees. They can be any size, and any type of figures and houses. They are usually a mixture of the pieces from familes, so can be antique, new or whatever means the most to individual families. Because they are hand made and hand painted, they are very slightly different. I also decided to sell them all together, as they are cute individually, but they make a great set of figures for dancing on the village green! They are tiny - just 1 1/4" tall, and 5/8" across the bottom.These are quite old, dating to just after WWII.
