Ancient 400-500 BCE Etruscan Terracotta Female Head of Hera Fragment, Central Italy, Museum Quality, Custom-Made Stand, Professional Conservation
This unique and rare piece is a female head fragment that originated in Central Italy during the 5th-4th century BCE.A beautiful mold-made terracotta votive with details reworked via a modeling tool in the form of Hera. Her beautiful visage composed of almond-shaped eyes under heavy brows, a gracefully arched brow line, a delicate nose, full lips, finely-formed cheeks, and a slender neckline, all framed by a hairstyle of wavy hair coiffed beneath a corona. Custom display stand included. Its red clay color and intricate hairstyle on the head is typical of Etruscan style. Votive heads like this example were placed in temples as offerings to thank the gods. Sculptors used molds and stamps to create images of women and men. Some of the particularly fine examples, such as this head, the artist will depict refined features and details of the face and hair with a pointed tool prior to firing in the kiln. The bold, enlivened eyes and wavy coiffure with curls are hallmarks of the Etruscan style. This Etruscan terracotta female head is an original antiquity and is a one of a kind piece, making it a valuable addition to any collection. Don't miss out on the opportunity to own a piece of history!
