A large and excellent collection of unused vintage post cards related to the life of Wm. SHAKESPEARE. More than half are lithographies taken from artistic pictures rendered in pastel or paint. The remainder are photographic images in sepiatone, black & white and in 2 later made cards, full photo colour.
Sites include Anne Hathaway’s Cottage, Birthplace of William Shakespeare / Shakespeare House, Grammar School, High Street & Harvard House, Shakespeare Memorial Theatre, Red Horse Hotel / Washington Irving’s Inn, Tudor House and Garrick Inn.
Publishers include J. Salmon / Salmon Series, Charles Worcester & Co, Bristol, Pan-American World airways, E.T.W. Dennis, P.P. Co., Walter Scott, Bradford, Anthony Tyler, PEACOCK Brand, Valentine & Sons / V.&S.,Ltd., Boots Cash Chemists.
Most marked “Printed in England” or “Printed in Great Britain” with a few exceptions being Hamburg Germany or USA. Four cards are on photo paper. None are postally used. Some are duplicates or variant printings.
Bonus included - UK commemorative postage stamps (QEII era) Shakespeare Festival and an American postal card “The merry Wives of Windsor” at American Shakespeare Festival at Stratford, Connecticut.
