Rare and original \"4 Early-1900s Circus Promo Photographs-theme: All About Monkeys.\" When you think about monkeys, you think about the zoo. But when it came to circuses, they were always looking for something exotic. But in fact we aren\'t even sure if the monkeys performed in the circus, or if they were just pets. In any case we have 4 photos of adults of all ages caring for monkeys. It\'s interesting to note that like the Organ Grinder\'s monkey, none of these monkeys were kept in caged, and often ran free.

In Photo #1 we see a man holding and petting a monkey. He\'s standing in front of a circus car. It could be where they live. The photo is black & white measures approx. 5-5/8\" x 3-1/2\" (≈14.5 cm. x 9 cm.) The photo is in excellent condition with very little abrasion to the front, and with strong edges and corners. Although one corner is dog-eared. On the back is the stamp of the studio which printed this photo: Purple Pigeon Studio, Gulfport, Miss.

In Photo #2 we see a monkey up close eating his lunch. His handler is in the background near a circus wagon … probably their \"mobile home.\" The photo measures approx. 5-53/4\" x 3-1/2\" (≈14.8 cm. x 9 cm.) The photo is also in excellent condition It is sepia, so probably older than the first. The surface show very little abrasion, and also has strong edges and corners, except for AGAIN one corner is dog-eared. On the back is clean and has the number \'9\' written on it.

Photo #3 we see of a monkey (on a leash this time) with his handler. In the background you can see a small tent. Presumably the monkey and the man live there together.

Photo #4 we see one man sitting on the ground holding TWO monkeys. Again in the background you can see a small tent, probably what they call home.

Both Photo #3 and #4 measure approx. 4-5/8\" x 2-3/4\" (≈11.7 cm. x 7 cm.) The photos are also in excellent condition, and are also sepia. The surfaces in front and back are very clean, although #3 has a printing flaw near the bottom front, and #4 has a printing flow in the upper right corner. The edges and corners are very strong.
