Maker and marks: Each piece in this beautiful antique demitasse cup and saucer service for 3 has a beige Royal China Works shield mark, a designation used by Grainger & Co. Worcester, the firm established in 1801 by Thomas Grainger and his partner John Wood as Grainger & Wood. When Grainger\'s son George assumed control of the factory in 1839, the company became George Grainger & Co.

The shield mark on this set includes the phrase \"G&Co Established 1801\" and an attribution to \"James Green & Nephew\", an English supplier to the hospitality industry that was created in 1737 and is still in business today.Source: Museum of Royal Worcester.

Age: An unclear date mark is impressed in each saucer. After becoming part of Royal Worcester in 1889, Grainger Worcester closed in 1902, making that the latest this set could have been produced.

Design:On each cobalt blue and gold piece is the red handwritten pattern number 3727.The lovely pattern features a raised beaded trim surrounding finely painted pastel flowers and leaves.

Size: The cups are 2 1/2 inches tall and 2 1/2 inches wide at the opening. The saucers are 4 3/4 inches wide. The set weighs 15.3 ounces.

Condition: The set is in overall good condition with no marks, nicks, cracks, stains, discoloration or repairs. There are two chips, one on the back rim of a saucer and the other on the foot of a cup. These are shown in the photos with the red arrows. There is light wear to the thin gold bands and to the gold beaded edge, and embedded dirt on all 3 cup bottoms - that\'s visible in the photos.
