Up for sale are small flat rate boxes of unopened small thundereggs and geodes from Costilla County, Colorado. These are from an old collection, and each order will be for a full small flat rate box (roughly 2 and 3/4 pounds or 1.2 kilograms). I will include a random mix of sizes from around 0.5 inch diameter to 2 inch diameter (ruler for scale). The smaller eggs fit between the larger ones in the box, so I can get them as full as possible. There will be a bit of paper in the box to keep stones from rattling around in the mail.Please see the second photo for some cut examples of these thundereggs. This locality features mostly solid thundereggs, but some druzy quartz geodes as well. They are best when cut and should not be smashed with a hammer. A thin diamond sintered blade works really well for these small eggs. They take a great polish as well! Interiors may include the following:- chalcedony
- radial cristobalite spherules (the \"cores\" of most thundereggs)
- agate
- moss agate
- quartz (mostly druzy, but small crystals are possible)
- birdseye/orbicular rhyolite
- brecciated thundereggs (interiors containing rhyolite and perlite, with some chalcedony or agate)
- flow banded rhyolite
- common opal (rarely hyalite)I get surprised occasionally by these thundereggs, but that list covers most of what the locality offers. They\'re always a surprise and that keeps them fun! I\'ve tried to grade them based on lines or bubbles on the outside in the past, and the inside of the eggs still varies wildly. You just don\'t know exactly what\'s inside until they\'re cut.Some of these thundereggs will fluoresce green under shortwave UV, but don\'t react much under longwave UV. The fluorescence occurs in the chalcedony, agate, and common opal.If you have any questions, feel free to ask and I will respond as soon as possible. Also, please check out my other listings!
