Do you want your own pin-up girl? Try this one by RJ Reynolds Company, who reintroduced their Kamel Cigarettes in 1997. This rare Kamel Girl Pin-up tin, which originally contained a double deck of playing cards, was part of the new campaign. Although now empty, the box branded the look-back effort for Red Kamel Cigarettes. First launched in 1913 as an up-scale companion to the more plebian Camel, Red Kamel did not survive the depression, and was dropped in 1936.
Now, some 30 years later, Red Kamel was back! They resurfaced, not in corner stores or smoke-shops, but in the urban-chic watering holes of sophisticated cities. Red Kamel was launched through bars and clubs in New York, San Francisco, Los Angeles and Dallas. A second wave brought it to a dozen other North American cities, including Toronto.
Young urban sophisticates, the target market, loved Red Kamel\'s images. The Red Kamel theme is neither completely retro, nor completely futuristic, but in the no-man\'s land of Generation X. Red Kamel Kocktail Klub events - fashion shows, lounge acts, performance artists and DJs, all paid for by RJ Reynolds whipped up the demand for Red Kamel.Then, suddenly, the promotion ended without warning. Limited supplies were available, with the last shipment, in April 1998, containing only 100,000 cigarettes (500 cartons). Products are currently available in limited quantities, mostly online.
Established in 1913, R J Reynolds markets several tobacco product lines, including the well-known Camels brand. A variety of logos and taglines are familiar to the smoking public, including mascot Joe Camel, \"The Camels are coming\", \"I\'d walk a mile for a Camel!\", \"For digestion\'s sake - smoke Camels\", and \"More doctors smoke Camels than any other cigarette.\"
Our empty card box is in excellent condition with only a little patina on the inside lid.
