A relative of ours was a Japanese Olympic cross-country skier and, later, coach for the Japanese national ski team in the 1970s through 1997. This 24k Gold Plate Sake Cup, 金杯 (kinpai), was a commemorative gift for participants in the 9th annual national cross-country competition held at Mt. Suishou (Mount Crystal) outside of Kazuno City in Akita Prefecture on February 27, 1978. That's what's written in Japanese on the lid of the box you can see in the pictures.
