Van Dalen awarded Louis J. Sirgo Memorial Award This is an original press photo. Accepting the first annual Louis J. Sirgo Memorial Award is Recruit Frank J. Van Dalen who was chosen for the honor by fellow recruits in Police Recruit Class No. 58, which was graduated Friday in exercises in the City Council Chamber. The recruit selected most portrays the criteria characteristic of a professional police officer that the late Deputy Chief Sirgo exemplified. Sirgo was slain by a sniper at the Downtown Howard Johnson Motel. The award is sponsored by the Police Affiliated Ladies. From left are Lous E. Turner, deputy chief for administration; Mrs. Urban G.
