Water supplies in many areas of Washington County, Illinois, have been found to contain nitrates in a concentration higher tan the United States Health Department\'s limits for \"potable water.\" Al Unverfehrt, with his son, John, pumps some high-nitrate water from one of two wells on his farm near Okawville. Present studies by Dr. David H. Gunderson of Cincinnati, chief of disease studies, epidemiology and biometrics of the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency indicate that high nitrate levels in drinking water have no known effects on adults, although they do affect newborn livestock and infants to about four years of age.Photo measures 9 x 8inches.
