The Photographer was Ray Ariatti.
B. Raynal Ariatti, also known as “Ray” or “Shorty” by friends and co-workers, was born on October 27, 1914 in New Orleans, Louisiana. Mr. Ariatti’s photographic career began while he was serving in the army during World War II, and for decades he was the official photographer for the Louisiana AFL-CIO and a staff photographer with the Loyola University Institute of Human Relations. At Loyola he worked closely with Louis J. Twomey, S.Jas an advocate for racial equality and the underprivileged. A frequent attendee of civil rights rallies and marches, he participated in the 1963 and 1983 marches on Washington and the 1965 march in Alabama from Selma to Montgomery. He died on July 27, 1990 at Southern Baptist Hospital in New Orleans.
