Here\'s a 1.75\" metal tie bar or clasp produced for John F. Kennedy\'s 1960 presidential campaign. It was done in this style to remind voters of his heroic exploits during World War II when a Japanese destroyer cut Lt. Kennedy\'s PT-109 patrol boat in half in middle of the Pacific Ocean. (We have an original August 1944 Reader\'s Digest with the contemporary account of what happened, our item 275985217587.)
Although many different style boat pins were also issued to supporters during the Kennedy presidency, there\'s a key difference between those and the campaign examples. The election items have the year \"60\" on them, while the post-inaugural gifts don\'t have the year on them.
