1958 American GI Sweetheart Japan Portrait Cloth & Hawaii Satin Frilled Souvenir:

Please read carefully, it\'s a bit complicated. Both the corporal and his sweetheart, who became his wife, are named in the photos accompanying the lot but not in the sale to protect privacy though they are both now passed. This is a group of items and related material sent from the U.S. Territory of Hawaii by a love struck GI in 1958, the year before Hawaii became a state. There is an unmailed postcard stating that he was on a 2 hr layover in Hawaii which was likely when he acquired the Hawaiian \"Sweet Heart\" fringed satin, 18\" square souvenir cloth. The other, larger, approximately 28\" x 29\" linen-like cloth with the young woman\'s portrait in the middle used a hand tinted High School senior year photo to creat the excellent likeness. My best guess is the portrait cloth was created in Japan because of the Rising Sun style rays and the ornamental, almost tattoo-like motifs of tiger and dragon. The two banners never received their text messages on the portrait cloth and the edges appear unfinished. I\'m guessing Bob, the Gi, had to leave before it was finished. The cloth portrait could also have been made in Korea but my best guess is 1957 to 1958 Japan.

CONDITION: Every thing in this sale, except for the worn mailing envelope, is in good, clean condition though there are plenty of deep creases which can be seen in the photos. The Hawaiian satin cloth has some bleeding of the color red (but not too seriously in my opinion). The darkness showing in the images of the satin cloth creases are shadows and not present on the cloth. Please examine the photos for further information on design and condition
