New York - Doctor Thor Johnson, conductor of the Cincinnati Symphony Orchestra, left for a month\'s conducting in Scandinavia and northern Europe today (August 29) aboard the M.S. Bergensfjord. His concerts in Scandinavia will mark his European professional debut, and his first appearance will be with the Finnish National Radio Orchestra in Helsinki on September 14. Doctor Johnson, Wisconsin-born descendant of Norwegian seafaring men, opens the Oslo season on October 5, conducting the Oslo Philharmonic. He returns immediately to open the Cincinnati season on October 12, his tenth anniversary season as music director of the Cincinnati Symphony Orchestra. He is noted for his work with the younger generation and is one of America\'s leading sponsors of the contemporary composer.Photo measures 7 x 9.25inches. Photo is dated 9-4-1956. PHOTO FRONT
