William Smith Home Exterior on West Genesee Street This is an original press photo. 1615 West Genesee Street, where J. William Smith lived. Accumulation of a century. Smith home expands in 110 years. The house, at 1615 West Genesee Street does not suggest by its present appearance all the history that lies behind it. Part of it stood on a lot in the Village of Geddes, back at the beginning of the 19th century. However, as the building expanded under different ownership it became known eventually as the home of J. William Smith, one of the great figures of the Solvay Process Company in its early days. to go back to the beginning, Dioclesian Alvord sold the lot on April 11, 1816 to William Jerome for $120. They cancelled it then lot 18 in the \"village of the Geddesburgh.\" Seven years later Isaac Jerome sold this and some adjoining land to Ashbel Kellogg for $1,200. Kellogg sold in 1832 to Luther Marsh for $1473.66, and all indications that Mr. Marsh built the original house. Photo measures 10 x 8.25 inches. Photo is dated 03-02-1947. PHOTO FRONT
