The sponsors of the two fighting ships and their parties are shown with Admiral William T. Tarrant of the Navy Yard, who said he believed the 2 destroyers were on the ways a shorter time than the previous record of any Navy yard in the country. L. to R., James Renwick Thomson of Chappaqua, N.Y.; Eileen Fairfax Thomson, his 14-year-old daughter who sponsored the Forrest; Catherine Thomson, her sister; Mrs. H. Walter Thomas, who sponsored the Fitch, and Admiral Tarrant. The Forrest was named for Lieut. Dulaney Forrest, great-great-granduncle of the Thomson girls, who served in the War of 1812. The Fitch was named in honor of Commandeer Leroy Fitch, Civil War officer and granduncle of Mrs. Thomas (Massachusetts) Photo measures 7.25 x 9 inches. Photo Is dated 1941. PHOTO FRONT
