This is a lovely, unique, truly vintage, lined kimono offered at an affordable price. It is a genuine Japanese kimono, made in the traditional form and in near-mint vintage condition.

This exquisite kimono is made of fine, quality kinsha silk. Kinsha is a soft, lightweight silk used for high-end items. The fabric is smooth with a slight crinkle texture typical of this silk.

The base fabric features a complex chrysanthemum flower petal pattern in maroon-purple and purplish-blue, creating a deep purple effect. The pattern includes traditional auspicious motifs: kanoko (faun spots), snowflakes with plum blossoms, zigzags representing pine bark with nandina flowers and berries, and cloud shapes with carriage wheels (gosho guruma), symbolizing prosperity.

The kimono is lined with fine, glossy ivory raw silk in the body and sleeve, and lustrous turquoise blue textured silk in the skirt and cuff. The inner sleeve slit is lined with red silk, adding an attractive flash of color when worn, characteristic of the 1940s.

Obijime: The obijime is a traditional kimono accessory, a long cord tied around the obi to keep everything in place and finish the look. It is a thick silk cord in deep maroon/purple, complementing the kimono colors.

Age & condition: This kimono dates from the 1940s. The very soft fabric, shorter length, lining, and style suggest this period. It is in excellent vintage condition with no conspicuous faults, which is rare for its age. There are minor marks and stains in the lining, slight yellowing, and mild grubbiness on the cuff edges. This is a gently used vintage item in great condition but not like new.
