1937 Original Press Photo.Twenty years ago in Petrograd, Feodor Chaliapin, left, the great Russian singer, autographed a portrait sketch to Gregory Ratoff. Here is Ratoff displaying the sketch to Chaliapin on the occasion of the latter' recent visit to Hollywood, during which he watched Ratoff at work in "Sing, Baby, Sing," the musical farce now in production at 20th Century-Fox. Ratoff keeps the picture of Chaliapin in his dressing room. Feodor Ivanovich Chaliapin was a Russian opera singer. Possessing a deep and expressive bass voice, he enjoyed an important international career at major opera houses and is often credited with establishing the tradition of naturalistic acting in his chosen art form.
