Embossed cards issued in German Sultan Cigarettespackage: Cards are from Luxusbild series no 147, 160, 191, 196. Cards measuresapprox. 2 1/16\" x 2 7/16\" (51mm X 62mm). Each card is in full color,embossed with an individual pattern. Cards are in like new condition (lookscan). No mount damage on back, no creases and very clean. Back with textwritten in German.
About Edith MadeleineCarroll : ( 26 February 1906 – 2 October 1987) Was an english actress, popularboth in Britain and America in the 1930s and 1940s. At the peak of her successin 1938, she was the world’s highest-paid actress. Carroll is remembered forher role in Alfred Hitchcook’s « The 39 Steps » (1935). She is also noted forlargely abandoning her acting career after the death of her sister in theLondon Blitz to devote herself to helping wounded servicemen and childrendisplaced or maimed by the war. Carroll was born in west Bromwich,Staffordshire. She Graduated the University of Birmingham, with B.A. degree.Then, like is father, she teach French at a girl’s school in Brighton. Carollwanted to act and left teaching to look for roles. She got a job in the touringcompany of Seymour Hicks. She made her stage debut with a touring company in The Lash.Widely recognised as one of themost beautiful film actresses, she were first glimpsed by film audiences in The Guns of Loos in 1928. Carrollacttracted the attention of Alfred Hitchcock, and in 1935, starred as one ofthe director’s earliest prototypical cool, glib, intelligent blondes in The 39 steps. Based on the espionagenovel by John Bucham, the film became a sensation and with it so did Carrollwho became very much in demand.
