SEE PHOTO-----COMPLETE, ORIGINALNEWSPAPER,theNew York Times dated May 8, 1935.This newspaper contains a prominentfront page heading and report on the BEGINNING of FIELD TESTING of the new medium of TELEVISION.

This marks theBEGINNING OF what was to become the new medium of BROADCAST TELEVISION.

The top of the front page has a two column heading: \"First Field Tests in Television, Costing $1,000,000, to Begin Here\" with subhead: \"RCA Will Take Sight Transmission Out of Laboratory--Empire State Building Likely as Centre--Science Will Not Interfere With Radio, Sarnoff Says\" (see) Coverage on early field tests in the city for the first time. Caveman technology compared to today\'s standards. Always nice to have notable events in history reported in this World famous publication, especially on the front page here.

David Sarnoff (February 27, 1891 – December 12, 1971) was a Russian emigrant, an American businessman and pioneer of American radio and television. Throughout most of his career he led the Radio Corporation of America (RCA) in various capacities from shortly after its founding in 1919 until his retirement in 1970. Sarnoff became president of RCA on January 3, 1930, succeeding General James Harbord. On May 30 the company was involved in an antitrust case concerning the original radio patent pool. Sarnoff negotiated an outcome where RCA was no longer partly owned by Westinghouse and General Electric, giving him final say in the company\'s affairs.

Initially, the Great Depression caused RCA to cut costs, but Zworykin\'s project was protected. After nine years of Zworykin\'s hard work, Sarnoff\'s determination, and legal battles with Farnsworth (in which Farnsworth was proved in the right), they had a commercial system ready to launch. Finally, in April 1939, regularly scheduled, electronic television in America was initiated by RCA under the name of their broadcasting division at the time, The National Broadcasting Company (NBC).

He ruled over an ever-growing telecommunications and media empire that included both RCA and NBC, and became one of the largest companies in the world. Named a Reserve Brigadier General of the Signal Corps in 1945, Sarnoff thereafter was widely known as \"The General.\"
